After many years of being a faithful Republican voter, I have decided that the Republican Party has let me and the rest of the country down. President George W. Bush made many promises. Many of those promises he successfully achieved, but too many he did not.
I think it is best to start my tirade here. In my eyes the Democratic party in our country is as close to communist as you can get without actually being a communist. Tax the people. Tax the businesses. Make a HUGE government with a program to "fix" every possible social ill. The way I see it, I might as well just give the government my entire paycheck and have them distribute it "fairly" as they see fit. There should be a bigger Social Security Administration, Socialized health care, expanded Welfare programs, Government sponsored everything!!! I am not in favor of Homosexuality nor Abortion. Both are vile, an abomination to God our loving creator and I strongly disapprove of the Democratic Party's embracing and celebrating these principles. There is NO way I could ever support the Democratic Party and still be able to live with myself. No matter what! There, now that I got that out...
President Bush faced a crisis that most US presidents never have, an attack by a foreign power on our own soil. The attacks on September 11 have truly changed the face of America and for that matter, the entire world forever. I thank God that Al Gore was not the President when that terrible attack occurred. We desperately needed a strong decisive leader to deal with the immediate crisis. I feel that our attack on Afghanistan and subsequent overthrow and removal of the Taliban was a win for both the United States and the entire world. After the overthrow of the Taliban however, I am not sure about what lead to our attack of Iraq. We should have TOTALLY finished the job in Afghanistan and left. Period.
Clearly Saddam Hussein was an awful leader who committed many atrocities against his own people. He may have been a threat to peace and stability to several countries in the Middle East. He snubbed every attempt by the UN arms inspectors to verify that he was complying with the sanctions placed against him. I am not convinced however that we had just cause to attack Iraq and remove him from power. I do not know or pretend to know all the inside political subtitles that lead to our invasion. I only know that US soldiers are dying for a war that may not be just. Not to mention the huge cost of this war. Both political and economically. The entire world it seems now has an anti-American bias. At the end of the day, our ever increasingly bloated government is sucking our liberties and tax dollars away at an unprecedented rate.
Have you noticed that the Democrats and Republicans are becoming more and more like each other every day? One of the things I was most encouraged about from hearing my state Governor George W. Bush campaigning was his vision of a smaller government. He told of a smaller Washington DC that would require less tax dollars to support. He told of a new nation with new ideas and new ways of doing business. Perhaps even the privatization of some government agencies. Today, we have more government agencies than ever before with incredible deficit spending. Of course, in fairness, some of that spending really was required in defending ourselves during a time of national crises as we were attacked. However, where do you draw the line? The ideals of the President should not fly out the window due to an attack on our country. Rather he could have leveraged the crisis to implement changes the way he envisioned them. Instead what we have is a bigger more intrusive government than ever before. The Patriot Act has several useful provisions in it. It is also the most radical erosion of US Civil Liberties to happen in modern times. Did the President have the authority to declare war or authorize an attack without congressional consent. I believe the constitution says no.
We also have terrible problems with H1B visas given to people to come here and work. Don't tell me that this is not taking jobs away from Americans. There are way too many stories of American Citizens having to train their foreign replacements before they were laid off. How sad is that, and it is just our government not only playing into but supporting corporate greed. Haven't we all had enough with corporate greed? How's your 401K? I know mine has been much healthier. Thanks Enron, Worldcom, Tyco, and too many others to list. The public has lost their confidence in you! Why then is the government supporting this with laws that help finance their greed? Ah, could it be $$$ MONEY $$$ ??? Well maybe, but I never said that.
What we have is the same propensity to grow government, restrict liberty,
abuse power, and cater to the highest bidder on both sides Democratic and
Republican, leaving Washington
in it's usual, "business as usual" condition.
Did you know there are other political parties in our country? Yes it is true! There is even a Communist Party (the "real" Democrats :-) ). Why did I never know this? That is a good question. Why do I only see Republicans and Democrats in the news or in debates? Another good question. What gives??? It is simply the two party political system is keeping the others out preventing them from making their ideals known so we effectively have no choice other than one of the two "popular" candidates.
Hence the purpose of this web page! I pray that you will read this and seriously
consider what the Libertarians have to say. You may not agree with everything
they say. I don't. For instance, the Libertarians feel that government should not make
laws restricting a woman's right to have an abortion since it isn't infringing
on anyones rights. I could not disagree more strongly!!!
There is a tiny un-born person whose rights are being SEVERELY infringed upon.
I do however agree with just about everything else they have to say.
Before you think I am a dope smoking fag pimp (no offense meant to any real dope
smoking fag pimps). Please understand that the Libertarian
position is not that any anti-social destructive behaviors are good. Only that government should not
be in the business of telling people how to live their lives.
The Libertarian party believes in personal responsibility. If you make
bad choices in life, it should not be the government's job to fix your
mistakes. Even more so at the expense of other taxpayers.
So?
Ah, yeah I know. I am too late for this. Although I voted for him knowing full well that he would not win, I feel I needed to follow my conscience. We desperately need to send a STRONG message to Washington that business as usual is NOT acceptable to the American People! Please visit the Libertarian Party home page and see what they are about. If you agree with their position, please join the party and help spread the word about this. Tell your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers. I believe it is not too late for our country. True reform can still happen.
